Elementary School has 16 classrooms, a fully-equipped library, a well-equipped
gymnasium, large playfield, modern playground, and multi-media centre. The French Immersion program covers kindergarten and grades 1 to 6. (About French Immersion) Highwood Elementary School is conveniently located slightly to the south of McKnight Blvd.at 11 Holmwood Ave NW ( 43 Ave NW ), between Northmount Dr. and 4 St. NW. LITERACY
- Highwood school places a strong emphasis on literacy. A number of programs
are in place to assist students to develop reading abilities. Literacy programs
include: - Calgary Reads Early - Late Literacy - Buddy Reading - Volunteer assistance from valued area seniors TECHNOLOGY - Ensuring that elementary students are technologically aware helps to prepare students for our modern world. The school has a multi-media centre (15 computer pods), server, digital video camera, scanner, and LCD panel. Each classroom is connected to the internet, and there are 4 computers in each classroom. Annual upgrades are made to ensure current viability. |

& FINE ARTS - Music and fine arts can contribute to the overall
development of children. Highwood School engages a music specialist for
this purpose. Orff and other instruments, as well as the Kodaly Method,
are used to introduce the elements of music. Extra-curricular choir is available
for all students. PHYSICAL EDUCATION - A well-rounded physical education program is provided under the direction of a Physical Education specialist. In addition to the regular in-school activities, other programs are enjoyed each year by the students. These include: - Skating program - Skiing program - Swimming program |
